Saint GENES le Greffier, martyr à Arles en Provence sous Dioclétien, baptisé dans son sang (303).
St. Genesius was a notary who was martyred under the emperor Maximian in 303 or 308. Whilst performing the duties of his office, the edict of persecution of Christians was read to him. Genesius, a young man, was then but a catechumen. Refusing to copy the edict, Genesius cast his tablets down at the feet of the magistrate and fled. He was captured and put to death and so received baptism in his own blood. A church was dedicated to him at Arles already in the 4th century. The feast of the dedication of this church is kept on the 16th of December. Holy Martyr Genesius, pray to God for us!
