Saint Walstan of Bawburgh (died 30th May A. D. 1016), patron of British food and farming, farmers, husbandrymen/women, farmworkers and the protector of farms and livestock.

"Saint Walstan was born in A. D. 970 and spent his life giving to the poor between Bawburgh and Taverham, but more miraculously he had visions. Between Bawburgh and Taverham there are three springs attributed to swelling up from the ground in his presence, the final being the one in Bawburgh where his final resting place is. The waters are said to have miracle healing powers."

Sainte MELANGELL (MONACELLA), vierge et solitaire à Powys dans le pays de Galles, vénérée à Pennant Melangell (vers 590).

Troparion of St Melangell tone 8
Risultati immagini per iconae di Sainte MELANGELL
Preferring the rigours of monasticism to worldly status and marriage, 0
pious Melangell,/ though wast fifteen years on a rock, emulating the
example of the Syrian Stylites./ Wherefore, 0 Saint, pray to God that He
will give us strength to serve Him as He wills,/ that we may be found
worthy of His great mercy.

Risultati immagini per iconae di Sainte MELANGELL
Kontakion of St Melangell tone 4

Praise, glory and honour are thy due, 0 righteous Melangell,/ for in
consecrating thy virginity to Christ, thou didst give us a model of
Christian living./ Wherefore we who keep thy festival/ pray for grace to
amend our lives according to thy example,/ glorifying God in every word
and deed.

Now let us all our voices raise
in great Melangell's joyful praise,
whose name with saintly glory bright
shines in the starry realms of light.

Filled with a pure, celestial glow,
she loved all creatures here below;
yet counting not on earth to stay
she walked along the heav'nly way.

With fasts her body she subdued,
but filled her soul with prayer's sweet food:
in other worlds she tastes the bliss
for which she left the joys of this.

Now to her shrine with hearts sincere,
her holy relics to revere,
the faithful come o'er land and sea
with psalms, and hymns, and melody.

O Christ, the Father's only Son,
by whose pure will great things are done,
through Saint Melangell's prayers on high,
in mercy hear your people's cry!

To God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Spirit, Three-in-One,
praise, honour, might, and glory be
from age to age, eternally.

Amen. Alleluia!

All of Britain rejoices in you, O Venerable Mother Melangell!
For the grace of God has shone forth in these islands
through the uncovering of your holy relics.
As the hare fled to the protection of your cloak
when chased by the hunting dogs
so also, when we are pursued by the evil one,
who prowls like a lion seeking to devour us,
may we find protection in your prayers.
O Venerable Mother,
whose friendship with God was revealed by the hare,
awaken in our hearts true love for Christ, the Author of Creation,
so that, following your example,
we may show love to all of God’s creatures,
who serve Him better in their way than we do in ours.
Draw us closer to you,
that we come to stand with all the saints who have shone forth in these isles
before the throne of Christ,
Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
lives and reigns, God to the ages of ages.  Amen.

A Greek, born in Nicopolis, Epirus, Greece; died in Rome, May 24, c.189. Although Eleutherius, son of Habundius, was Greek, he became a deacon in Rome and was elected pope about 174 to succeed Saint Soter. He is known only for his decree that any food fit for humans was suitable for Christians-- probably issued against the rigorism of the Gnostics and the Montanists. He is credited with sending missionaries to Britain.

THE 26th DAY

Commemoration of Our Father among the Saints Augustine, Archbishop of Canterbury & Enlightener of the English
Composed by Reader Isaac Lambertson

Troparion of the holy hierarch, in Tone IV -

Awed by the grandeur and majesty of the holy Augustine, with reverence let us honour him with hymns of praise; for, filled with the effulgence of grace divine, at the behest of the glorious Gregory h e brought the light of Christ to the English people. Wherefore, he dwelleth now in splendour with all the choirs of the saints and angels of God.

Kontakion of the holy hierarch, in Tone VI -

Like Paul, Christ's chosen vessel, thou didst journey afar, preaching the glad tidings of thy heavenly Master, O Augustine. Wherefore, taking ship in Gaul, thou didst sail to England, O great hierarch, where, in obedience to the Lord, thou didst bring the heathen people to knowledge divine, baptizing them in the name of the Holy Trinity and making them children of the light and grace.

Commemoration of Our Venerable Father Bede of Jarrow

Composed by Reader Isaac Lambertson

Troparion, in Tone VIII

Throughout the dark years of thy times, O Bede, thou didst water the English lands and all the West with outpourings of grace; and like a skilled sower thou didst cast the seed of divine knowledge far and wide over the fields of thy Master, where, springing forth, it hath borne fruit for Him an hundredfold. Wherefore, having thus acquired boldness before Him, O venerable one, pray thou unceasingly that our souls be saved.

Prokimenon, in Tone VII

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

Stichos: What shall I render unto the Lord for all that He hath rendered unto me?

EPISTLE TO THE GALATIANS, § 213 [Gal. 5: 22-6:2]

Brethren: The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Alleluia, in Tone VI

Stichos: Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord; in His commandments shall he greatly delight.
Stichos: His seed shall be mighty upon the earth.

GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE, § 24 [LK. 6: 17-23]

At that time, Jesus stood in the plain, and the company of His disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judæa and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him, and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch Him: for there went virtue out of Him, and healed them all. And He lifted up His eyes on His disciples, and said: Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.. Blessed are ye who hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye who weep now: for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven.

Communion Verse

Saint Comman, May 23
At May 23 we can add another name to the long list of obscure Irish saints, whose only memorial is their entry in the Irish calendars. A Saint Comman appears in the earliest of these, the Martyrology of Tallaght, and Canon O'Hanlon directs us to a County Wicklow location called Kilcommon, before conceding that it may not be connected to this saint or indeed to any of the other eleven saints Comman commemorated in the Irish calendars

Composed by Reader Isaac Lambertson

Troparion of the holy bishop, in Tone VIII

By thee, O Dunstan, hath the whole land of England been wondrously adorned, for thou didst labor unceasingly to restore all the monastic houses laid waste by the heathen, to people them again with zealous monks and nuns, and to provide them with strict rules of pious order wherewith to govern their lives. Wherefore, the Church of Christ doth ever praise thine all-honorable name, O holy bishop.
